Hi there, welcome to my website! Currently it’s under a major reconstruction, so watch out for swinging beams and trucks backing up. And be sure to check back soon, when it is prettier.

Arm&Hammer Baking Soda
Arm & Hammer Baking Soda has a long history. According to their website, they’ve been around for more than 165 years. 165 years ago it was 1850! Cement, invented in 1849, was a hot, new thing. Cement. Times have changed a lot since then. But baking soda hasn’t had to. It’s still the same exact little canister of goodness that belongs in every pantry.
So we decided to #TBTto1850 to point out the differences between our times and the old times. And the one thing has remained constant: Arm & Hammer Baking Soda.
Starting with print:
Our print drives people to our microsite. There, users can log in with social media for an 1850’s takeover.
Logging in with Facebook means some old-school, sepia-toned photos and some old fashioned “scrolling.” A handful of other things are different, too. Instead of “liking” things, you “fancy” them. “Groups” are “guilds,” and other language has been altered to be more of the 1850’s fashion. These little changes are sprinkled all throughout the 1850’s facebook.
The language of posts also changes with text replacement. Here is a before and after of a comment:
When users type, there’s a popup window that lets you throw your language back to the 1850’s. Much like image filter services, it automatically adds our hashtag, #TBTto1850.
On Twitter, we make topical jokes about the differences between current times and the past, and invite users to join in.
And lastly, as a stunt, Arm & Hammer Baking Soda would replace a regularly scheduled bus route with a horse and buggy to real-world TBT to when public transport was a horse and carriage.

Playtex
Periods are a part of life for most girls, so why are they so weird to talk about? Even though periods usually signify the end of things, Playtex wants to begin the conversation to make period talk normal talk.
In traditional media, we point out all the rather strange quirks of life that people accept as totally normal.
On Facebook, we post content that empowers women and unashamedly mentions periods.
Here is the trailer for our app, to be pinned at the top of our Facebook.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEVSON7fpJU
As the app gains traction, you can view your friends’ stories as well as those of celebrities. Your ticket to enter is recording your own story.
We’ve all heard the legend that ladies sync up on their periods. Now they can sync up all the time!
(Men are welcome too!)
On Twitter, we playfully correct the punctuation of tweets to put periods back in conversation. We also crack jokes about times when a period can make a big difference in the meaning of conversations.
For Suave 3-in-1, we created a darkly humorous take on all the (many) things that can go wrong in a morning, encouraging people to just get mornings over faster.

Boulder Juggling Festival
Every year at the Boulder Juggling Festival, all types of circus artists get together to play for a badass weekend. For the 10th Annual Boulder Juggling Festival, I got the privilege to design the t-shirt for the festival. After talking to some other jugglers, I decided, along with the club, that t-shirts referencing the location of the festival are the ticket to awesomeness.
So, we chose to reference one of the most Boulder-esque things we could have: the COEXIST bumper stickers. Those bad boys (…good boys?) are pasted everywhere around here, and sum up the local culture. But our COEXIST is about juggling and related circus arts. Because you’ve got to make sure the poi artists are getting along with the club jugglers. Really.
From left to right: contact juggling, unicycling, cigar boxes, clubs, diabolo, poi, and kendama.
I’m not sure if you’re ready for this step in our relationship just yet…but here’s the front of the t-shirts:
They ended up making a killing. (The good kind.) We sold out of men’s mediums—the most common size, and the largest quantity ordered—within just a few hours of the fest starting on Friday. (Unheard of!)
And jugglers from all over the US, Britain, Canada, Sweden, and Switzerland will continue to circulate the design and keep promoting Boulder Juggling Festival all around the world. So that’s a cool feeling.
6/17/14 Update: The IJA shared my photo of everyone wearing their COEXIST t-shirts!
Hodgepodge
For Payless Shoes, we made a :60 love story to remind moms why they got into the crazy mess of starting a new family in the first place. The good feels.
True facts: I don’t just like words. I also enjoy visual design systems and rectangle armatures (which I used to analayze the geometry of this bottle and design a label). I’m also a Zelda fan. Art school has the coolest homework.
Personal:
I try to do a little bit of everything. Design. Juggling. Yo-yo. Name it, teach me a little, and I’m happy.
Here are some of my personal projects:
Weekly Writing Wisdom
The Microvideo Project
Songwriting
Weekly Writing Wisdom is a project I started in my junior year of college to stoke my creative fires. I design and set/handletter a composition starring wisdom from some people who seem to know what they’re doing. The design lives as my binder cover for the week.
The goal is to get better at typography and writing. Maybe even life, if I’m lucky.
The Microvideo Project, started by a close friend, is a personal film project I do every once in a while. This year I chose to do it in August and September. Basically, a microvideo is a collection of short clips that journal your life. For me, it’s mostly my friends being really silly, playing outside, quiet moments, good beer, and my family. Here’s what it’s like to be me:
Want to hit the highlights? Try:
0:48 Adorable corgi puppy
1:41 Beautiful Colorado scenery
2:10 My German friend says “rainbow gold” for some reason, and it’s delightful.
2:33 My brave friend does a backflip on a very tall rock formation
2:36 An epic Canyonlands vista
3:59 More flips
4:07 Highlining in floating rain to Alt-J
4:30 Sketchy Andy (slacklining/adventure celeb) tries to base jump onto a slackline!
4:57 An epic rock skip
5:21 The epitome of “susurrus”
6:34 EPIC backflip
7:59 Awesome view from on top of a mountain I climbed
8:00 A tragic ankle sprain (Not from climbing the mountain. The irony.)
10:10 The King of Hipsters
10:39 More beautiful mountains
12:09 Awesomely purple plane window
12:42 The first day of my last year of school!
Do you like math? Or bad jokes? (I like both of those things a lot.)

About
There are lots of things to do besides copywriting. So I’m constantly adding to a personal collection of skills that currently includes drawing, slacklining, climbing, juggling, ukulele, guitar, and balancing things on my face.
Instead of a hackneyed metaphor (have you ever searched “juggling” on a stock photo site? Ugh.) about how great I am at “juggling tasks,” here is a picture that’s not a metaphor at all. I am literally good at juggling.

There’s something else you should know. I might be a time traveler.
I’m on the left, and on the right is “Portrait of a Youth” by Anne Girodet. Painted in 1795.
